Apportable announced it has raised $5 million in funding from Google Ventures and a group of individual investors, including Gmail creator Paul Buchheit, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, among others. Apportable has now raised $7.4 million in total funding.

The digital marketing company TrackMaven has raised a $6.5 million Series A round led by New Enterprise Associates with participation from existing investors Bowery Capital and Acceleprise Ventures. Harry Weller, a general partner at NEA, has joined the board as part of the funding round. In May 2013, the Washington, D.C.-based company announced a $1.25 million seed round led by AOL Ventures.

Cisco Systems announced at a conference in Israel that it would invest in JVP's new fund to focus on cybersecurity deals.
In what is one of the most highly anticipated tech IPOs of the year, cloud-based file sharing company Box has reportedly and quietly filed registration papers for a public offering. Reuters reported in November that the company tapped Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse and JPMorgan Chase & Co to manage its IPO. Box, which has raised more than $400 million in debt and equity since 2005, could seek up to $500 million in its IPO, Quartz and others reported.
Barry Sternlicht, founder, chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group, has invested an undisclosed amount in HotelTonight, maker of an app to help users with last-minute hotel bookings. As part of the funding, Sternlicht has joined HotelTonight as a strategic advisor. San Francisco-based HotelTonight has raised more than $80 million in funding from Battery Ventures, Accel Partners, U.S. Venture Partners, Coatue Management. GGV Capital and First Round Capital. It's most recent round was a $45 million Series D in September.
