BrightBytes has announced $2.5 million in Series A funding by Rethink Education, a New York-based venture capital fund that invests exclusively in education technology startups. This funding follows the company's raising of a $750,000 convertible note in December 2012, led by Learn Capital with participation from NewSchools Venture Fund. Matt Greenfield, managing partner of Rethink Education, will join the BrightBytes board.
Notice Software has closed a $350,000 seed round, led by the Rocket Venture Fund. Notice Software’s core technology uses push notifications to engage mobile device users with the web. Notice will use this funding round to expand its product offering to include e­tail and mobile workforce solutions.
CVRx, a private medical device company, has completed a financing round totaling $29.6 million. CVRx plans to use the funding for advancing its clinical trials and expanding its international commercial activities. New Enterprise Associates and Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation were the co-lead investors. Other participants in this round included existing investors BBT Fund L.P. and SightLine Partners.
Crocus Technology, a developer of magnetically enhanced semiconductor technologies for mobile security, embedded microcontrollers, harsh environment electronics and magnetic sensors, has raised 34 million euros ($45 million) in additional capital. A new private investor, Industrial Investors, joined the round led by Idinvest Partners. Major investors Sofinnova Ventures, Innovation Capital, Nanodimension and Ventech also participated.
Kymeta Corporation has closed a $50 million Series C financing to accelerate the company’s growth plans. Kymeta designs and manufactures satellite communication antennas and systems. Existing Kymeta investors including Bill Gates, Lux Capital and Liberty Global were joined in the financing by Osage University Partners and The Kresge Foundation.
MPM Capital has acquired a minority stake in InformedDNA, a US provider of genetic counseling and genetic benefits management services. The investment fr­om MPM's SunStates Fund will be used to expand InformedDNA's current genetic benefits utilization management offerings while also funding the development of new specialty genetic services for the pharmaceutical industry.
Magnolia Broadband has secured $3 million in funding from individual and institutional investors, led by SCP Partners. Magnolia Broadband will use the funding for further development of its AAS technologies for smartphones, tablets, small 3G/4G base stations and Wi-Fi access points.
Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners has backed the Series B financing round of OncoEthix through BioDiscovery 4, its fourth fund dedicated to life sciences. OncoEthix is a Swiss-based oncology drug development company founded in 2009. Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners participated alongside SV Life Sciences and existing investors Index Ventures and Endeavour Vision.
BlikBook, an online engagement platform for higher education lecturers and students, has secured a new round of financing, worth $1.3 million to support the significant growth of the business. The round was led by Leaf Investments alongside Delta Partners, investing from its Bank of Ireland Start-up and Emerging Sectors Fund, and Enterprise Ireland. Existing investors Forward Investment Partners also participated.
Shazam has raised $40 million from America Movil, a wireless carrier in the Americas, as well as formalized a strategic business collaboration between the companies for the Americas. The investment will also help accelerate Shazam’s ongoing growth in music, continued expansion into television and the development of innovative new products.
