Waterloo, Ontario based tech startup Tulip Retail has announced a $2.4 million investment led by SoftTech. Others investors include Founder Collective, BoxGroup, Lerer Ventures, iNovia, Promus Ventures, KIMA Ventures, Matt Mullenweg (founder of Wordpress), the founders of Bufferbox, and Greg Kidd (early investor in Twitter and advisor to Square).
Jemstep, an online investment advisor has raised an additional $4.5 million in a follow-on to its Series A funding. The funding is from existing investors as well as new investor, Caleo Capital, an international private wealth advisory company. This brings total funds raised to $15 million which will be used to expand distribution, enhance the service, and make key new hires.
i2E recently closed a $700,000 investment in Moleculera Labs through its Oklahoma Seed Capital Fund, which led a $1.84 million financing round in the Oklahoma City-based company. The financing round also included investment by the i2E-managed SeedStep Angels and other angel investor groups.
Numerify has secured $8 million in venture capital funding after completing an oversubscribed Series A round. Founded in 2012, Numerify is headquartered in Cupertino, CA and backed by Silicon Valley venture firm Lightspeed Venture Partners.
UK software company SocialSafe has completed a second interim-funding round of $1 million. This funding round sees further investment from Marco Sodi and other previous investors, along with a number of investors from UK based group Knight Ventures.
Reesio has closed a new $1.096 million round of funding. Reesio is a residential real estate database. Investors included Digital Garage, MicroVentures, Hiten Shah, and other angels.
Scent-Lok Technologies, a division of ALS Enterprises, has received a strategic investment from Patrick Hylant Jr., a family office investor. Livingstone acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Scent-Lok. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kleiner-backed Choose Energy, an online energy marketplace leader that helps residents and businesses switch electricity providers, has acquired Power2Switch, a Chicago-based energy startup and Techstars alum that also enables consumers to reduce energy costs by comparing rates and switching electricity providers. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
Morgenthaler Ventures has announced the winners of DC to VC’s HIT Startup Showcase, a contest that identifies promising health IT startups seeking funding. After eight on-stage presentations in front of venture capitalists, angel investors, government officials and entrepreneurs, the judges selected Amplify Health as the winner of the enterprise solutions category and Kinsa as the winner of the consumer solutions category.
The majority of PE-backed buyouts in Q3 were add-ons, according to the latest private equity data from PitchBook Data. Private equity firms completed 458 deals totaling $78.4 billion in 3Q 2013. Though overall deal count is slightly down from last year and total PE capital invested is more than $4 billion greater than in 3Q 2012, according to PitchBook Data.
