METRIX Capital Group, an Orange County-based venture firm, has closed a $5 million funding round to grow its Revenue/Royalty Based Funding program. RBF is a bank alternative loan program that provides small to medium-sized businesses fast, flexible growth capital.
Zemanta, which offers content discovery and audience development tools, has raised $2 million in new funding from Union Square Ventures and Social Starts. The financing will enable Zemanta to invest in native and content-based ad technology, expand its platform and partnerships and grow the sales and marketing team. To date the company has raised $8 million. Zemanta also had leadership changes, naming president Todd Sawicki as chief executive officer, and co-founder Bostjan Spetic as chief product officer.
Betable, a real money gaming platform, has raised $18.5 million in Series A funding. The funding round was led by Venture 51 with additional funding from existing investors including Greylock and Founders Fund.
ShapeUp, which provides incentives-based employee wellness solutions, has raised $7.5 million in new funding. The financing round included $5 million of equity from venture capital firms Cue Ball Capital and Excel Venture Management, and $2.5 million of debt from Silicon Valley Bank. The company previously raised $9 million in funding.
EnTouch Controls, which provides cloud-based energy management systems for restaurant and retail chains, has raised a total of $8.25 million in Series B equity and debt financing. The financing was led by SJF Ventures and included new investor NRG Energy, Inc., and the company's initial investor Trailblazer Capital. The funding round includes an expanded debt facility from Comerica Bank's Technology and Life Sciences division.
Innovative Venture Fund and SMBC Venture Capital have led a financing round for SiTime Corporation, a semiconductor company. Innovative Venture Fund is co-operated by NEC Capital Solutions. All major investors participated in the oversubscribed round, and a new partner, Hercules Technology Growth Capital Inc., provided a commitment for debt financing to SiTime.
Malauzai Software, which provides mobile banking apps for community financial institutions, has completed a $3 million capital raise. Malauzai will use the investment to continue to quickly ramp up mobile banking programs.
ContaAzul, which provides easy-to-use SaaS accounting and invoicing solutions, has raised a Series B round of funding. Series A backer Ribbit Capital led the investment round, with participation from Valar Ventures and existing investors Monashees Capital and Napkn Ventures. The amount of the funding was not disclosed.
arGEN-X, a clinical state human therapeutic antibody company, has raised an additional euro 5 million as an extension of its Series B financing round from Flemish investment company PMV as a new investor. The Series B round, which had its first close in December 2011, now totals euro 32.5 million.
RapidMiner, Inc., which provides scalable predictive analytic operations, has closed a $5 million Series A funding round, led by Earlybird Venture Capital and Open Ocean Capital, which is backed by the founders of MySQL. Along with the funding, the company has re-branded to make it easier for customers to match RapidMiner products and services to specific enterprise needs.
