Svelte Medical Systems closed its latest round of funding on $22 million, bringing the total amount of capital invested in the company since 2007 to about $65 million. Along with participation of current investors, the funding round was led by CNF Investments and New Science Ventures.
CENTRI Technology, which provides mobile bandwidth optimization and bandwidth management solutions, has closed a $13 million Series C funding round. The financing includes investments from Angel Valkyrie, LLC, and existing investors.
Novasentis, a developer of sensory feedback technology, has raised $8 million in Series B funding with new investors Samsung Venture Investment Corporation and Chengwei Capital. Novasentis raised a $3 million Series A funding round led by Chengwei in 2008.
Kumu Networks, which developed technology with the potential to double the capacity of wireless networks, has received $15 million in Series B funding led by Third Point Ventures, and joined by existing investors NEA and Khosla Ventures. Kumu raises $10 million in Series A funding from NEA and Khosla Ventures in December 2012, bringing total investment to $25 million.
Circle, a startup founded by Jeremy Allaire that seeks to drive mainstream adoption of digital currency, has closed a $9 million Series A funding round from Jim Breyer, Accel Partners and General Catalyst Partners. Breyer and David Orfao of General Catalyst will joins Circle's board of directors.
Alector, a biotech company working to discover and develop therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease, has closed a Series A round of financing. Alector did not disclose the size of the funding round, which was led by Polaris Venture Partners and OrbiMed Advisors.
Horizon Technology Finance Corporation has led a $6 million venture loan facility for Nanocomp Technologies, a developer of high performance materials and component products made from carbon nontubes. Horizon, which provides secured loans to venture capital and private equity-backed development-stage companies, funded an initial $1 million of its $2 million commitment under the facility.
91Jinrong, which matches consumers with financial institutions, received a second round of investments of RMB 60 million from CBC Capital, Matrix Partners and other institutions. The company is part of the Microsoft Venture Accelerator in China.
Irish startup Trustev, which provides anti-fraud solutions to verify customers' identities on websites, has closed a $3 million seed round to further develop its online fraud protection technology. Investors include Greycroft Partners, Mangrove Capital Partners, ACT Venture Capital, Telefónica’s Wayra and Enterprise Ireland.
Immune Design, a biotechnology company, has closed a $49 million Series C funding round, which includes an upfront investment of $32.5 million and the right of the investor syndicate to inject another $16.5 million as the program progresses. Financing was led by The Column Group, new investor Topspin Partners and existing investors Alta Partners, Versant Ventures, Osage Partners and ProQuest Investments. In addition, Sanofi-Genzyme BioVentures joined as a new investor.
