VoltDB said Monday that it has received $8 million in Series B funding. Investors included previous backers Sigma Partners and Kepha Partners. Based in Bedford, Mass., and Santa Clara, Calif., VoltDB is an operational database provider.
OKCoin has raised $10 million in Series A financing. Investors included Mandra Capital, VenturesLab and Ceyuan Ventures. Based in China, OKCoin is a bitcoin trading platform.
Boston cleantech startup Loci Controls has received an undisclosed amount of seed funding. The investors included CommonAngels Venture Fund, Launch Capital and several "prominent" angels in the Boston area.
Gravie said Monday that it has secured $10.5 million in Series A financing. Aberdare Ventures led the round with participation from previous backer FirstMark Capital. In conjunction with the funding, Dr. Mohit Kaushal of Aberdare Ventures has been added to Gravie's board of directors. Based in Minneapolis, Gravie is an insurance marketplace.
Wise.io said Monday that it has closed $2.5 million in Series A funding. Voyager Capital led the round. Also, the firm has hired Jeff Erhardt as CEO while co-founder Joshua Bloom becomes CTO. Based in Berkeley, Calif., Wise.io is a provider of customer analytics solutions.
Wix.com, a provider of free software for building websites, has acquired Appixia. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in Israel, Appixia is a mobile commerce native app builder. Wix, which recently went public, is backed by Benchmark Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners and Mangrove Venture Capital.
Salesforce.com said Friday that it has named General Colin Powell to its board of directors. The appointment became effective March 13, 2014. A retired four star general, General Powell served as U.S. National Security Advisor, Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was also the 65th Secretary of State under President George W. Bush. General Power is is a strategic limited partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Headquartered in San Francisco, Salesforce is a provider of CRM solutions.
LX Ventures said Friday that it has named Mark Relph to its board of advisors. Relph, the former vice president of developer evangelism for Microsoft Canada, will be working with Copper.io, a portfolio company of LX. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, LX Ventures is an accelerator that acquires and accelerates high growth tech companies.
According to Fortune, a new fund of fund Maiden Lane is set to close its debut fund at between $20 million and $25 million. The outlet reported that the fund will back syndicates and companies tied to the startup network AngelList. The LPs include Top Tier Capital Partners and Venture Investment Associates. And although Maiden Lane is "not officially part of AngelList," one of its partners is Kevin Laws, current COO of AngelList.
Synthesio said Friday that it has received $20 million in Series B funding from European private equity firm Idinvest Partners. According to the company, the capital infusion will be used for product development and expansion. Synthesio is a global social media monitoring company.
