Exosome Diagnostics said Tuesday that it has closed $27 million in Series B financing. New investors QIAGEN and Arcus Ventures led the round with participation from Tiger Partners, CD Ventures, Monashee Capital, NGN Capital and Forbion Capital Partners. Leerink Swann served as financial advisor and placement agent to Exosome on the transaction. In conjunction with the funding, Dr. Steven Soignet, general partner at Arcus Ventures, has been added to Exosome's board of directors. Exosome is a developer of molecular diagnostic tests.
Lumena Pharmaceuticals said Tuesday that it has closed $45 million in Series B financing. New Enterprise Associates led the round with participation from Adage Capital Management, RA Capital Management, Pappas Ventures, RiverVest Venture Partners and Alta Partners. Based in San Diego, Lumena is a biopharmaceutical company focused on rare cholestatic liver diseases and serious metabolic disorders.
Advanced Mem-Tech has raised $5 million in funding. SEB Alliance, the corporate venture company of Groupe SEB and Uzi Halevy led the round. Based in Israel, Advanced Mem-Tech is a developer of filtration membranes.
Hatchbrands Ventures, an internet accelerator based in Ottawa, has hired Marco Janeczek as venture partner. Janeczek's experience includes working at H-FARM and First Stone Ventures. Hatchbrands Ventures has been acquired by iBrands Corp., a holding company that operates niche brands.
Sailogy has raised $1.15 million in financing. Swiss Government Foundation AGIRE and Fabio Cannavale, executive chairman of BravoFly Rumbo Group, led the round. Based in Switzerland, Sailogy is a chartered boats provider.
According to a company spokesperson, music app developer Shazam has raised $20 million from a consortium of private investors. As a result of this new investment, Shazam's valuation has increased to approximately $500 million. Shazam's backers include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Institutional Venture Partners, DN Capital and Acacia Capital Partners.
Kabam, which is backed by Canaan Partners, Redpoint Ventures and Pinnacle Ventures, has acquired Phoenix Age. No financial terms were disclosed. Based in San Francisco, Phoenix Age is a game studio.
Women's apparel retailer The Wet Seal has added Deena Varshavskaya, Nancy Lublin and Adam Rothstein to its board of directors. Varshavskaya is the founder and CEO of Wanelo; Lublin is the CEO of DoSomething.org; and Rothstein is a general partner at early-stage venture fund Disrupt-ive Technologies Partners. And, the company has named John S. Mills as vice-chairman of its board of directors.
Svelte Medical Systems said Monday that it has secured $5 million in funding from the West Health Investment Fund. Headquartered in New Providence, NJ, Svelte Medical Systems, which is also backed by CNF Investments and New Science Ventures, is a developer of balloon expandable stents.
Bacterin International Holdings has secured $4 million in financing from investment firm OrbiMed. In addition to the funding, Bacterin has agreed to issue 1.5 million shares of its stock to OrbiMed. Based in Belgrade, Montana, Bacterin is a producer of bone graft material and coatings for medical applications.
