In conjunction with the funding, Chris Erickson of Pangaea Ventures has been added to Redlen's board. Based in Saanichton, British Columbia, Redlen Technologies is a maker of high-resolution CZT semiconductor radiation detectors.
Omnidrone said Thursday that it has closed $2 million in funding. The investors were Nokia Growth Partners, London Venture Partners and Kibo Ventures. Based in Barcelona, Omnidrone is a mobile gaming company.
ZS Pharma has raised $55 million in Series D financing. Novo A/S led the round with participation from RA Capital, Adage Capital, Sofinnova Ventures, Alta Partners, Devon Park Bioventures, 3x5 Special Opportunity Fund, Salem Partners and RiverVest. Based in Coppell, Texas, ZS Pharma is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on treating kidney, cardiovascular and liver disorders.
Spotify said Thursday that it will acquire The Echo Nest. No financial terms were disclosed. Headquartered in Somerville, Mass., with an office in San Francisco, The Echo Nest is a music intelligence platform. Its backers include Commonwealth Capital Ventures, Matrix Partners and Norwest Venture Partners.
DigitalOcean said Thursday that it has closed $37.2 million in Series A funding. Andreessen Horowitz led the round. According to the company, the capital will be used to hire engineers and build new datacenter locations. Based in New York City, DigitalOcean is a cloud provider for developers.
PrestaShop said Thursday that it has raised $9.3 million in Series B funding. XAnge Private Equity, Seventure Partners and Serena Capital led the round. According to the company, the capital will be used for expansion, product development and marketing. Based in Miami and Paris, PrestaShop is a a provider of open source e-commerce software.
Polarion Software has closed $10 million in Series A funding from Siemens Venture Capital. According to the company, the capital infusion will be used for product development. Headquartered in San Francisco, Polarion is a developer of ALM solutions.
Emotient said Thursday that it has received $6 million in Series B financing. Handbag, a new venture firm launched by former Crosspoint general partner Seth Neiman, led the round. Intel Capital was also an investor. Based in San Diego, Calif., Emotient is a provider of software that analyzes facial expression.
TriplePoint Venture Growth BDC Corp. has raised approximately $125 million for its IPO after pricing its offering of 8,333,333 shares at $15 per share. The stock begins trading Thursday on the NYSE under the ticker symbol "TPVG." Morgan Stanley & Co, Wells Fargo Securities, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse Securities and UBS Securities are the lead underwriters. Based in Menlo Park, TPVG is a business development company that focuses on venture growth stage companies in tech, life sciences and other sectors.
Toronto-based OMERS Ventures has hired Kent Thexton as a managing director. In his new position, Thexton will be responsible for investments in the North American market focusing on companies in the tech, media and telecom sectors. OMERS Ventures is the VC unit of the OMERS pension plan.
