Brazilian online retailer Dafiti has received 15 million euros in funding from the International Finance Corp., a World Bank Group member. According to the company, the financing will be used for growth and expansion.
According to TechCrunch, PricePanda, a price comparison site in Southeast Asia, has closed $3 million in funding from Tengelmann Corp. The site reported that the capital will be used to expand PricePanda's presence in South Asian. PricePanda's backers include Rocket Internet and AB Kinnevik.
New Enterprise Associates has hired Paul Palmieri as venture advisor. Palmieri is the founder and former chairman/CEO of Millennial Media.
Shockwave Medical has secured $12.5 million in Series A financing. Sofinnova Partners led the round. Also, the company has appointed Antoine Papiernik of Sofinnova Partners to its board of directors. Shockwave is a maker of intravascular devices for patients with challenging calcified cardiovascular disease.
AutoGrid Systems said Monday that it has closed $12.75 million in Series C financing. The investors included European utility E.ON as well as current backers Foundation Capital and Voyager Capital. Headquartered in Redwood Shores, Calif., AutoGrid Systems is a provider of cloud computing solutions and big data analytics for the energy sector.
According to Fortune, Genocea Biosciences has priced its IPO of 5.5 million shares at between $12 and $14 a share. The stock will trade on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol "GNCA." Citigroup and Cowen & Co. are the lead underwriters. Based in Cambridge, Mass., Genocea Biosciences is a developer of T-cell vaccines. Genocea's backers include Polaris Venture Partners, Lux Ventures, Skyline Ventures, Auriga Ventures, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Morningside Ventures.
Founders Fund is currently seeking to raise $750 million for its fifth fund, according to Bloomberg. The outlet reported that the San Francisco VC firm expects to close the fund in the first quarter of this year. Founders Fund was launched by Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal.
According to a blog post on Jelly's site by co-founder and CEO Biz Stone (who also co-founded Twitter), the startup has raised a undisclosed amount of Series B funding from Greylock Partners. Also, in conjunction with the funding, Josh Elman will join Jelly's board of directors. Uniken has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from India VC firm Nexus Venture Partners. Also, as a result of the investment, Sandeep Singhal of Nexus Venture Partners will join Uniken’s board. Based in Odessa, Florida, Uniken is a provider of technology solutions.
Orthofix International has named Kathleen Regan as interim chair of its board. The appointment is effective immediately. Regan, a board director, is replacing Randy Thurman who has resigned. Regan became a venture partner of Radius Venture in 2010. Based in Lewisville, Texas, Orthofix International is a provider of orthopedic solutions.
