BackOps said Thursday that it has raised $7 million in Series A funding. Sherpa Ventures and e.ventures were the lead investors. Google Ventures and existing seed investors CrunchFund and Mark Pincus also participated in the round. In addition to the funding news, Tim Whipple joins the company as vice president of customer success. Headquartered in San Francisco, BackOps is a provider of software solutions for small to medium-sized businesses.
Singapore-based Asia Pacific Investment House has raised $50 million in funding for Resort Development Paradise Haven in St. Kitts & Nevis. The capital will be used for job creation and resort development.
Zoomdata said Wednesday that it has raised $4.1 million in Series A financing. The lead investor was Columbus Nova Technology Partners. Razor's Edge, CIT and B7 also participated in the round. According to Zoomdata, the funding will be used by the company to expand its engineering, operations, sales and marketing teams. Based in Reston, Virginia, Zoomdata is a provider of data analytics.
The Saïd Business School Seed Fund said Wednesday that it will be investing £20,000 each to two start-ups founded by Oxford alumni: ACE Consensus Ltd and Onfido Ltd. ACE is a digital platform that provides information about market expectations while Onfido is a provider of pre-employment background checks and reference reports. Founded by MBA students at Oxford University's Saïd Business School, the Saïd Business School Seed Fund focuses on making annual investments of £15-25K per start-ups led by Oxford students and alumni.
Tivli said Wednesday that it has raised $6.3 million in Series A financing. The lead investor was New Enterprise Associates. Felicis Ventures, Rho Ventures, CBC New Media Group of Raleigh NC, HBO, Mark Cuban’s Radical Investments and WME also participated in the round. The funding will be used for expansion in the university markets. Based at the Harvard Innovation Lab in Boston, Mass., Tivli is a provider of IP-based TV service to university students.
Movidius said Wednesday that it has closed $16 million in Series D funding. The lead investors were Atlantic Bridge, DFJ Esprit and Robert Bosch Venture Capital. Existing investors Capital E and AIB Seed Capital Fund also participated in the round. Also, Dan Dobberpuhl has been named chairman of Movidius' board. Headquartered in San Mateo, Calif., Movidius is a computational image chip maker.
Yottaa said Wednesday that it has received $16 million from Intel Capital. The funding will be used for expansion and growth. Headquartered in Boston, Mass., Yottaa is a web and mobile optimization company.
Instacart said Wednesday that it has closed $8.5 million in Series A funding. The lead investor was Sequoia Capital. Khosla Ventures, Canaan Partners, SVAngel and Paul Buchheit, creator of Gmail, also participated in the round. Also, Michael Moritz, chairman of Sequoia and former board member of Webvan, joins Instacart's board of directors. Instacart is a provider of grocery store delivery.
JumpStart, a nonprofit venture development organization, has invested $250,000 in 7signal. According to 7signal, which is also backed by North Coast Angel Fund, Ohio TechAngels and the Akron BioInvestments Fund, the funding will be used for product and staff development. Based in Akron, OH, 7signal is a provider of solutions for wireless user performance.
Groupize said Wednesday that it has raised $2 million in Series A financing. The lead investor was Golden Seeds. Launchpad Venture Group also participated in the round. Groupize is a platform for the travel industry.
