Technology Crossover Ventures has led a $56.7 million Series D round for Thinking Phone Networks. The round also includes funding from existing investor Bessemer Venture Partners. Cambridge, Mass-based Thinking Phones provides technology that aims to unify voice, text and conferencing services on a single cloud platforms.
Weaveworks said Wednesday it secured $5 million in Series A financing led by Accel Partners.  London-based Weaveworks helps companies build and migrate applications to run on any container technology.
Veniam said Tuesday that it raised $4.9 million in Series A funding led by True Ventures, with participation from Union Square Ventures, Cane Investments and private investors. Mountain View, Calif.-based Veniam provides technology to turn vehicles into WiFi hotspots.
Apellis Pharmaceuticals said Tuesday it has completed a $33 million private placement of its Series C Preferred Stock. The financing was led by Morningside Ventures and AJU IB Investment Co., Ltd. with Epidarex Ventures participating with follow-on funding. Appellis, of Crestwood, Kentucky, is a biotech company that applies immunotherapy to autoimmune disease.

Auspherix Pty Ltd said Thursday it has secured another AU$1 million (US$878,215) in a series A financing from Australia’s Medical Research Commercialisation Fund. Auspherix, of Sydney, is an early stage anti-infectives company developing antibiotics to treat resistant bacterial disease.
Cryptzone, which is backed by Medina Capital, said Wednesday that Andy Jones has joined the company as chief financial officer. Jones was previously the CFO at Integrity Interactive. Boston-based Cryptzone provides data security, identity and access management services.
