Social Venture Partners Chicago said Tuesday that One Million Degrees will receive $75,000 over the next three years. Formerly the Illinois Education Foundation, One Million Degrees helps low-income community college students graduate, apply to four-year universities and find jobs.
Appurify said Tuesday that it secured $4.5 million in Series A funding led by Google Ventures. Foundation Capital, Felicis Ventures, Webb Investment Network, Jay Jamison and Raymond Tonsing also took part in the $4.5 million round, a spokeswoman said. Appurify said it has collected $6.25 million in total funding, including their seed round. San Francisco-based Appurify provides a testing platform for mobile apps.
Quill has received a £1 million (US$1.5 million) investment from Ariadne Capital's Fund and leading entrepreneur investors, including Shakil Khan (Spotify, Summly, buy.at), Rupert Ashe (Graze, Videojug), Karen Hanton (toptable.com), Andrew Burge (King Content, iSUBSCRiBE), Nick Beare (BBC Worldwide, LGI), Peter Read (Techlightenment, Songkick) and Andrew Grahame (Mr & Mrs Smith). London-based Quill specializes in writing for the web, on any topic, and in any language.
StickyADS.tv said Tuesday it closed a €3.1 million (US$4.1M) B round led by Ventech, which joins ISAI. Paris-based StickyADS.tv is a video ad network and ad exchange.
Ugichem GmbH said Tuesday it raised €2.25 million (US$2.6 million) from public and private investors. Austria’s Research Promotion Agency FFG awarded ugichem a grant of €850,000. The company also received equity financing of €1.4 million from existing investors. Ugichem, of Innsbruck, Australia, develops antisense drugs.
Andreessen Horowitz is leading a $60 million Series C financing round for Lyft, according the company's blog. Lyft, of San Francisco, is a ride sharing app.
Digital Signal Corp. said Wednesday that it has secured $50 million in funding from Technology Control Corp. DSC has raised total funding of nearly $100 million. Prior investors in the company include Columbia Capital, Novak Biddle Venture Partners, Silverhaze Partners, Paladin Capital Group and City Light Capital. Chantilly, Va.-based Digital Signal provides human identification and identity management solutions.
Adaptive Planning said Tuesday it secured $45 million in venture funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Existing investors ONSET Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners (NVP), RBC Venture Partners, Cardinal Venture Capital, and Monitor Ventures also participated. Mountain View, Calif.-based Adaptive Planning provides cloud-based business analytics solutions for companies and nonprofits.
Newsle said Monday it raised $1.65 million in a Series A round of venture financing led by Advance Publications Inc. Maveron, DFJ,Transmedia Capital and Launny Steffens, and previous investor Rockwell Schnabel also participated. San Francisco-based Newsle is a web app that is said to track news about you, the people you know and anyone that interests you.
Jelly Industries, a startup from Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, has closed a Series A round led by Spark Capital. SV Angel also invested, according to an announcement on Jelly's site. Other investors in the company include Jack Dorsey, Square's co-founder and CEO; Bono; Reid Hoffman of Greylock Discovery Fund and Al Gore. Stone is co-founder and CEO of Jelly, which is based in San Francisco.
