Connecticut Innovations has committed $150,000 in financing to iDevices through its pre-seed fund. Canton, Conn.-based iDevices develops devices that connect wirelessly to smart phones, tablets and computers by using Bluetooth technology.
Cambridge Consultants, of the U.K., has spun off Aveillant. The company provides radar data that air traffic controllers use to distinguish wind power plans. Aveillant also received VC investments from DFJ Esprit and AIFCL, the statement said.
Kanbox said Monday that it has raised $20 million in Series B funding. DCM led the round. Kanbox provides cloud storage and sharing services in China.
Location Labs, which has raised $26 million in venture financing, said Monday that it has bought Wirkle and Volley. Wirkle is a mobile product developer while Volley offers mobile group messaging. Financial terms weren't announced. Draper Fisher Jurvetson, BlueRun Ventures (formerly Nokia Venture Partners), QUALCOMM Ventures, Intel Capital, and Mitsui Ventures have invested in Location Labs which provides security software.
Imagen Biotech said Wednesday that it has received up to $40 million in Series A financing from SV Life Sciences, Novo Ventures, and Fidelity Biosciences. Imagen Biotech is developing treatments to treat blinding diseases like dry AMD.
Four former executives of Houlihan Lokey have formed Clearsight Advisors, a McLean, Va.-based merchant bank focused on business services and technology. Clearsight execs include: Joel Kallett, co-founder and MD, Greg Treger, also a co-founder and MD; Bhavin Patel, SVP; and, Bethany Seidler, who is director of administration for the new firm.
Arteaus Therapeutics said Wednesday that it raised $18 million in financing from Atlas Venture and OrbiMed Advisors. Arteaus Therapeutics, of Durham, N.C., is developing an antibody that is used to prevent migraine headaches.
Dropbox said Tuesday that it has completed a $250 million Series B financing led by Index Ventures. New investors includes Benchmark Capital, Goldman Sachs, Greylock Partners, Institutional Venture Partners, RIT Capital Partners, and Valiant Capital Partners. Early investors Sequoia Capital, Accel Partners, and Hadi and Ali Partovi also participated. San Francisco-based Dropbox, an online storage site, has received $257.2 million in total funding.
Five firms, including BofA Merrill Lynch, GETCO, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Quantlab Group, have taken a minority stake in Chi-X Global Holdings. Chi-X Global operates a trading platform and is the holding company for Chi-X Canada, Chi-X Japan and Chi-X Australia, which is expected to launch Oct. 31. Instinet, which is owned by Nomura Group, is the largest equity holder of Chi-X. Financial Technology Partners provided financial advice to Instinet and Chi-X global.
Media Ventures Group has named William Apfelbaum its Chairman effective immediately. Apfelbaum, who recently invested in the company, joined Media Ventures from Titan Worldwide where he was chairman.
