Bain is heading back to the West Coast. But it’s not the global PE firm that’s returning but Bain Capital Ventures. BCV, which was formed in 2000 as the VC arm of Bain Capital, plans to open a Palo Alto office this summer, peHUB has learned. Ajay Agarwal, a Bain Capital Ventures MD, will be moving to Palo Alto to lead the office, I’m told. Several BCV associates will be relocating to the area.

General Catalyst has made a "significant" investment in CLEAResult, according to a statement. Austin, Texas-based CLEAResult designs and implements energy efficiency and renewable energy programs for utility companies. General Catalyst is a VC and PE firm based in Cambridge, Mass.
G5, which is backed by Volition Capital, said Tuesday that it has named Ilene Vogt the senior VP of sales and services. Bend, Ore.-based G5 provides vertical-specific local marketing services for mid-market companies.
Safeguard Scientifics has led a $5 million series B funding round for ThingWorx, which has developed an application platform that designs apps to connect people, systems and devices. Wayne, Pa.-based Safeguard provides growth capital.
Capital Dynamics has raised $17 million for its newest Champion Ventures fund, according to an SEC filing. The pool, Capital Dynamics Champion Ventures VII LP, has a target of $150 million, the Form D filing, dated Feb. 15, said.
