SV Life Sciences said Thursday that it has promoted Paul LaViolette to partner. LaViolette joined SV Life Sciences, a VC firm, in 2009 as a venture partner.
Access 360 Media said Wednesday that it has raised a "significant" round of series C financing. Access 360 didn't disclose how much it raised. However, a source close to the company says Access 360 raised around $50 million. Columbia Capital, which led the round, injected roughly $12 million.
Technology Crossover Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers have invested $135 million in OSIsoft. As part of the deal, Jake Reynolds, TCV general partner, and Ben Kortlang, a KPCB partner, will join the OSIsoft board. San Leandro, Calif.-based OSIsoft provides the PI System which manages real-time data and events for sectors including manufacturing, energy and utilities.
Lincoln Renewable Energy said Wednesday that it has closed a $14 million round of funding. Austin Ventures led the round. Other participants include private investors as well as LRE management and founding investors. Ken DeAngelis and Clark Jernigan, both of Austin Ventures, are joining the LRE board. Chicago-based Lincoln Renewable develops U.S. solar and wind projects.
The Carlyle Group may be known for its large buyouts but the politically connected PE firm does do smaller deals. On Tuesday, Carlyle unveiled a "significant" investment in Primatics Financial. It's not clear if the Washington D.C.-based Carlyle acquired a majority of Primatics but the PE firm hasn’t bought 100% of the company. Primatics's management, which is staying in place, is taking a stake, according to a statement.
Communication Intelligence Corp., of Redwood Shores, Calif., has closed a $2.2 million round of funding. Phoenix Venture Fund was the lead investor. CIC provides electronic signature products to the financial industry. Phoenix is a PE firm.
Thrift Recycling Management, a Lakewood, Wash.-based seller of used books and consumer goods on the Internet, has received $8.5 million in growth equity financing. QuestMark Partners led the round. News of the investment was disclosed by Cascadia Capital, a Seattle investment bank, which advised Thrift Recycling.
CradlePoint Technology said Tuesday that it has closed a $7.5 million Series B venture round of funding. OVP Venture Partners led the round which also included current investor Highway 12 Ventures. Boise, Idaho-based CradlePoint makes cellular routers and software platforms for 3G and 4G mobile broadband networks.
WorthPoint has closed a $3.6 million equity investment. Principal partners from Cheviot, a UK investment firm, participated in the round, according to a statement. Atlanta and Dublin, Ohio based WorthPoint helps collectors accurately assess the worth art, antiques and collectibles.
Dell, this morning, finally got its consolation prize. On Monday, Dell reached a deal to buy Compellent, a data storage provider, for about $820 million, or $27.75 a share. The deal, which was announced last week, is expected to close in early 2011. Dell, the world's third-largest personal computer maker, is expected to use the acquisition to expand its data center offering. Compellent will give Dell technology that helps customers store, recover and manage large amounts of data, according to Bloomberg.
