Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers launched a program to match student designers with its portfolio companies. The Design Fellows Program is a 3-month program intended to give students designers the opportunity to work with Kleiner-funded startups.
Fortem said it raised $1.43 million from the Anges Québec group, the Anges Québec Capital fund, and other private investors. Of the total, the Anges Québec Capital fund contributed $500,000 and an additional $525,000 came from individual members of Anges Québec including Jean-Guy Gourdeau. Montreal-based Fortem said the current round of funding remains open until February to an additional $2.1 million.
Fenwick & West’s quarterly study of private company valuation trends in Silicon Valley found up rounds exceeded down rounds by 61% to 17% in the third quarter. This wasn’t quite as ebullient as the second quarter, when 74% of deals had higher valuations.
Jerusalem Venture Partners for the first time publicly released net IRRs for several of its funds, showing solid performance for a pair of 1990's vintage funds. The firm, based in Israel, said its 1993 vintage JVP I generated an IRR of 54.2% and its 1997 vintage JVP II posted an IRR of 56.1%. The firm's JVP IV, vintage 2000, has a net IRR of 3.4%.
Zoomdata said it raised $1.1 million in seed-round funding from angel and institutional investors. The 12-person data visualization company will use the money to hire new engineers. Investors include Hemang Gadhia, former founder of Condaptive.
DataSift said it raised $15 million in Series B funding led by Scale Venture Partners and joined by Northgate Capital and Daher Capital. Rory O’Driscoll, managing director at ScaleVP, has joined the board.
Xtime said it raised $23 million in a deal led by Bessemer Venture Partners and joined by Lumia Capital and existing investors RPM Ventures and Saints Capital. The company said Jeremy Levine, a Bessemer partner, and DFJ Venture Partner Heidi Roizen have joined the board.
